First 5 San Diego had a busy September attending events around the County and meeting hundreds of families out in the community! Perhaps you saw us at the Nine Months Matter Walkfest, Let’s Connect Expo, Battalion and Family Beach Bash, Day for Kids carnival, Solana Beach Sunset 5K, Otay Mesa-Nestor Library 40th Anniversary Celebration, or the Waterfront Pumpkin Patch?

Walkfest
On Friday, September 9th, First 5 hosted a booth at the Nine Months Matters Walkfest at Ingram Plaza in Liberty Station. It was their 1st annual community festival and awareness walk to promote healthy, alcohol-free pregnancies. The event featured a guest speaker, information booths, yoga demo, opportunity drawings and a mocktail contest.

Battalion and Family Beach Bash
First 5 San Diego hosted a booth at the Battalion and Family Beach Bash on Camp Pendleton September 9th. The event brought together Marines and their families for a fun day at the beach.

Let’s Connect Expo
First 5 attended the Let’s Connect Expo, sponsored by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, at the San Ysidro Health Center on Saturday, September 10th. This free event connected visitors to resources such as family disaster planning, health screenings, healthcare and food application assistance, budgeting, CalWORKS, healthy food demos, dental varnish, and tips for job search, updating resumes, and interviews. There were giveaways, kid-friendly activities, entertainment, and opportunity drawings.

Day for Kids
On September 16th, First 5 hosted a booth at the 11th Annual Day for Kids Carnival presented by the Boys & Girls Club of Vista. Day for Kids is a national event featuring entertainment, games, prizes and treats for kids of all ages. Approximately 300 people attended this event which honors spending quality time with kids. There was a special visit from Assembly Member Rocky Chavez, as well as business owners from the community.

Established in 1963, the Boys & Girls Club of Vista meets the daily needs of more than 2000 youth and their families annually. BGCV is located in a community whose demographics consist of disadvantaged children whose families consist of a low-income, under-served population.

Solana Beach Sunset 5K Run/Walk
On Saturday, October 1st, First 5 hosted a booth at Solana Beach Sunset 5K Run/Walk presented by Champions for Health (formerly known as the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation). Nearly a thousand participants gathered at Fletcher Cove to walk, run and enjoy the beautiful sunset. The goals of the 5K were to promote healthy and active lifestyle, provide an opportunity for families to learn about various health agencies and their services and raise funds for the Foundation’s diabetes prevention programs.

Otay Mesa-Nestor Library 40th Anniversary Celebration
First 5 was invited to celebrate the 40th Anniversary at Otay Mesa-Nestor library on Saturday, October 15th. The event attracted hundreds of families and young children. There were entertainment, food, activities and booths for community resources.

Waterfront Park Pumpkin Patch
On Sunday, October 23rd, First 5 hosted a booth at the Waterfront Park for the County’s 3rd Annual Pumpkin Patch events. Thousands of families and their young children attended the event for the Pumpkin Patch, enjoyed entertainment, crafts, fun games, inflatables, and interactive activities. The event provided an opportunity for families to recreate, encourage quality time and celebrate family tradition.
