It’s never too early to start practicing good oral health habits. Our friends at the San Diego Oral Health Initiative have partnered with us this month to share some tips and resources to help get your little one’s dental health off to their best start:
- Brush teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
- Start seeing a dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings at first tooth or first birthday.
- Gently wipe your baby’s gums every day to keep them healthy for baby teeth!
- Choose water over sugary drinks—and try whenever possible to reduce sugary foods altogether.
- Avoid putting a baby to bed with a bottle.
- Start flossing once two baby teeth are touching.
- Download the American Dental Association’s Brushing Calendar to make brushing and flossing a regular part of your day (and into a fun activity!).
You can also visit our Oral Health Programs web page for additional information on:
- Dental screenings, exams and treatment for children ages 0 through 5
- Care coordination for high-risk patients
- Oral health education for parents/caregivers
