From growing up to supporting a growing family, stress can happen at any point to any one of us. That’s why this Stress Awareness Month we’re sharing ways you can reduce stress when things get tough:
- Create a Routine: Children crave structure. Having routines in place makes life predicable, which help children feel secure when they know what to expect. Routines also help parents out too! Having a routine in place during stressful activities like leaving the house or getting ready for bed can create a sense of calm for the whole family.
- Trying a “Time-In”: It’s important to remember that your little one is feeling a lot of things for the very first time—which can be hard to manage. When big feelings turn into tantrums, instead of using a “time-out” when things get tough, try implementing a “time-in” to teach your child self-soothing techniques. One of our favorite ways to help reduce our stress is to take five big-belly breaths!
- Go Outside: Sometimes you just need a change of scenery to reset! Spending time outside in nature provides a space where children can explore their world around them without the constraints and rules of being indoors. Plus, it gets them active which also benefits their health and mood.
