Pre-Deployment Resource Fair
On Wednesday, July 27, 2016, First 5 San Diego had a presence at the Naval Base San Diego to support its USS Makin Island Pre-Deployment Resource Fair. Hundreds of Navy employees and their family members came to the Fair to learn about different resources available to them. First 5 San Diego provided information and parent education materials to the military families and their children.
Live Well San Diego 5K Run / Walk
On Saturday, July 30, 2016, over 3,000 residents of San Diego County gathered at the Waterfront Park in Downtown San Diego to participate in the annual Live Well San Diego 5K. This year, the County of San Diego partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank (SDBB) to combine into one fantastic event. The event not only benefited the SDBB, which supports more than 100,000 patients each year, but also raised funds to support foster youth in San Diego County. Thousands of participants visited our booth and received information and parent education materials. The annual Live Well San Diego 5K aims to create a healthy, safe, and thriving San Diego.
UCSD Little Grad Picnic
On Saturday, August 6th, First 5 hosted a booth at the UCSD Little Grad Picnic at Ingram Plaza, NTC Liberty Station. The event celebrated “Little Grads” from UC San Diego Health’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with games, arts and crafts, a bounce house, a petting zoo, face painting, a magic show, dance performance, and story time.
The 49-bed NICU at UCSD is a highly specialized, nationally recognized center. Highly experienced neonatologists work with neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists to provide excellent care for more than 900 newborns from around the county each year.
Family Luau Picnic
First 5 attended the Family Luau Picnic at Mills Park on Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar on Friday, August 12th. The on-base event provided resources to hundreds of Marines and their families.
