Reading to children is essential to their development. However, many San Diego County students lack high-quality books, hindering their literacy development and educational success.

Studies show that children not reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school, largely because foundational reading comprehension is crucial for building more advanced educational concepts.

That is why this National Reading Month, we have partnered with the United Way of San Diego County to promote their Read Across America Book Drive, an annual drive that aims to increase children’s access to age-appropriate, high-quality books at home to foster a nation of confident and engaged readers.

Through 3/31, you can positively impact students in our community by donating at uwsd.org/bookdrive.
