The NHA’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs ensure children are healthy and ready to learn, offering an array of health, dental and nutrition services for families—even prenatal care! Their gold-star educational foundation sets infants, toddlers and preschool-aged children up for success in the classroom and beyond.
Early Head Start programming serves children six weeks to three years and supports pregnant and postpartum, low-income women. Services include:
- Prenatal and parenting classes
- Individualized postpartum home visits and plans for children
- Transition services for children moving onto preschool
The Head Start program serves children 3-5 years old and focuses on Kindergarten readiness skills. Services include:
- Immunization, dental, medical and mental health support
- Nutrition services
- Workshops, training and support for parents
- Kinder-readiness development:
- Language and literacy skills
- Problem-solving skills
- Math and science exploration
- Socialization and interaction skills
If your family receives CalFresh, CalWorks or SSI benefits, you are eligible for the Head Start program! Proof of citizenship is not a requirement for enrollment in Head Start.
