First 5 Express Tour: Poway County Library
January 22, 2018

On January 22, 2018 the First 5 of California Express Tour made its way through San Diego County. During their visit they hosted “Toddler Story Time” at the Poway County Library. Approximately 75 youngster and their caretakers participated in an hour long story time which engaged the families in the “Talk. Read. Sing.” message that promotes healthy brain development through meaningful interactions with toddlers and young children.

This event provided an opportunity for families to recreate and celebrate family
wellness. It encouraged families to visit parks and recreation facilities for year around use throughout San Diego County. It also provided a free community gathering featuring tips on healthy living, fitness, crafts, bounce houses, an opportunity drawing and so much more.

AAP Chapter 3 “Read and Romp” 2018

This event is created to raise awareness and support for Reach Out and Read San Diego in order to promote community awareness of the importance of early childhood literacy and to encourage parental reading to young children starting at 6 months of age through pediatricians prescribing books to children at well-child visits. Reach Out and Read San Diego services 86,000 children annually.
