On May 10, 2014, First 5 San Diego was proud to sponsor the grand opening of the County’s new Waterfront Park.

Some 2,000 people attended the opening, which included a ribbon cutting by 200 local school children, and speech from Mary Roosevelt, daughter-in-law of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who dedicated the County Administration Center in 1938.  The event also featured a Kids Zone, sports activities, a classic car show, food truck pavilion, and farmer’s market.  First 5 San Diego was among the exhibitors at the resource fair.

The 12-acre bayfront park includes two expansive greens able to accommodate nearly 7,000 people, a promenade, theme gardens, plazas and terraces, a picnic area, shade trees, and a large play area.  A 830 foot-long fountain runs nearly its length and features jets that shoot water 14 feet up into the air and down into a shallow splash area for children.

The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and available to hold weddings, birthday parties, and other special events.  For more information, visit
