  • On May 26th, First 5 San Diego and the U.S. Navy unveiled the new Murphy Canyon Child Development Center.

First 5 San Diego and the U.S. Navy unveiled the Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) Murphy Canyon Child Development Center on May 26, 2015. First 5 San Diego Executive Director Kim Gallo and Director of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Nick Macchione, First 5 commissioner, joined U.S. Navy officials for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Located at the intersection of Santo and Patriot roads, the 13,000 square foot child development center has six classrooms that will provide care for 114 military children. It has an updated playground, drop-off parking, pedestrian walkways and service access to the facility.

First 5 San Diego contributed more than $6 million for construction of the center. The building will double the child development center footprint in the Murphy Canyon area and provide more child care opportunities for military families.
