San Diego County Parks and Recreation Brings Free Movies to Families

San Diego County Parks and Recreation offers more than 80 movies for free to families throughout San Diego County for the entire summer.

For the seventh year in a row, the San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation and sponsor cities are bringing back Summer Movies in the Park, the largest free movie event in the county. First 5 San Diego is pleased to once again sponsor the event. The series is held each year in an effort to get residents to enjoy the outdoors and promote family togetherness and community.

This year’s program runs through the end of September and includes more than 80 family-friendly showings at local parks, pools, on the deck of the Midway, and at the County’s new Waterfront Park. Movies include “The Lego Movie,” “Monsters University,” “Despicable Me 2,” and this year’s favorite, “Frozen;” as well as classics including “The Karate Kid,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Mary Poppins.”

All movies are open to the public. Movies begin at dusk and are shown in a high-quality digital format on a 32-foot inflatable widescreen that is specially designed for large audiences. Some locations have a parking fee.

Simply bring a blanket, your favorite snacks, and chairs to enjoy the festivities!
