First 5 San Diego is pleased to share that Contracts Manager Grace Young is retiring after 38 years working for the County of San Diego. County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, chairwoman of the First 5 Commission of San Diego, honored Young for her public service on behalf of the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors, proclaiming October 19th “Grace Young Day”.
Young joined the County in November 1977. Her career includes working for Welfare Eligibility, Child Protective Services-Court Intervention, Initial Services, Family Maintenance and Reunification, Hillcrest Receiving Home, Children’s Services Bureau-Residential Services, Foster Home Licensing, Special Projects, Contract Development and First 5 San Diego.
Young’s most notable accomplishments include reengineering the Foster Parent Application process, facilitating the planning and development of Polinsky Children’s Center, coordinating the development of the first countywide Cal-Works Services Request for Proposals, and facilitated the development of all First 5 San Diego procurement and contract management processes and procedures.
