We are proud and excited to share that Executive Director Kim Gallo was a recipient of the San Diego Business Journal 2015 Healthcare Champion Award in the category of Company Executive. The award honors individuals within the San Diego community who have made a significant impact on the quality of health care in San Diego County. Gallo was recognized for her steadfast dedication and exceptional leadership to give children ages 0 through 5 and pregnant women access to healthcare, growth and development services, dental care, high-quality preschool, and family support.
First 5 San Diego is the second largest of 58 county commissions in the state of California. Gallo oversees an approximate annual operating budget of $75 million. Last fiscal year, under Gallo’s leadership, First 5 San Diego provided direct services to nearly 70,000 children, parents and caregivers, and providers. She has led parent education efforts to help families to eat healthy and live a healthier lifestyle, particularly through a partnership with leading grocer Vons. Gallo has also spearheaded the Talk, Sing, and Read early literacy campaign in San Diego County, part of a nationwide movement that encourages parents to talk, sing and read to their child starting at birth.
