You may have seen our latest public service announcement, which highlights the physical and social-emotional benefits of engaging in activities with your child. Similar to last year’s campaign, we encourage parents to talk, read, sing and play with their child. A child feels protected when parents show caring, affection, and responsiveness. A nurtured relationship will help build not only strong, healthy brains, but also decrease the likelihood of health problems such as depression, heart disease, and diabetes later in adulthood.
Spring and summer are great times to be active with your child, and San Diego offers endless opportunities for that! Take your child to a local park, go to the beach, attend a cultural or art fair, or simply turn your backyard into a playground. If your child is older, teach him/her to ride a bike or play a sport. Make family-bonding time a part of your daily routine. Talk, read, sing and play—everyday experiences are learning experiences for your child!
