First 5 San Diego is proud to announce that First 5 First Steps, First 5 San Diego’s targeted home visiting initiative, has received the 2015 Achievement Award by the National Association of Counties (NACo), which annually honors innovative, effective county government programs that enhance services for residents.
First 5 First Steps provides home visitation services countywide for expectant parents and parents of newborns to specific target population families (teens, military, immigrants, refugees, and low-income households) using two evidence-based home visiting models, Healthy Families America and the Parents as Teachers curriculums.
This year, the program was among the efforts that resulted in 43 NACo Achievement Awards for the County of San Diego, putting the County among the top three counties in the nation. A special thanks to community partners – American Academy of Pediatrics California Chapter 3, Palomar Health, SAY San Diego, Home Start Inc., and South Bay Community Services for the collaborative effort to make the program a success!
