Maureen “Mo” Muir
Through her love of education and its potential to inspire change and personal development, Maureen Muir has worked creatively in literacy and education for over 25 years; focusing on youth as well as seniors. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of San Diego.
As a volunteer in community and philanthropic work, Ms. Muir has been on the Parent Teacher Association Board as Vice President and a member of the Kiwanis Group advocating for literacy. She has served on the Northview Homeowners Board of Directors and served on the Encinitas Friends of the Library Board, raising thousands of dollars to bring the library to fruition.
As a parent, Ms. Muir is a Math 24 coach and facilitator, and volunteers as a Playground Parent, homeroom mom, team sports mom, and grant writer for Biz Town. She has received special recognition certificates from Congressman Brian Bilbray and Assemblyman Martin Garrick, and was honored as “ Educator of the Year” in 2010 from the New Encinitas Business Network.
Ms. Muir was elected to the Encinitas Union School District (EUSD) Board of Trustees from 2008 to present and serves as its Clerk. She is a recognized advocate on behalf of children and as a fiscal watchdog. She represents EUSD on the North Coastal Consortium for Special Education. She also completed the California School Board Association’s Master of Governance Program.
Ms. Muir was appointed to the advisory board of the non-profit Lifesharing, a division of the UCSD Medical Center focusing on organ and tissue donation.
Ms. Muir resides in Encinitas with her husband Mark, currently a City Council Member for the City of Encinitas and former Fire Chief of the City of Del Mar, the City of Solana Beach, and the City of Encinitas. Their young son, Scotland, goes to school in the Encinitas Union School District.
